Rita Ripperger

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Rita C. Ripperger, 83 of Lacona, on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona. Interment will be at the Bauer Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona or the Bauer Cemetery Fund. Rita was born February 5, 1933 at home near Lacona, Iowa to Herman and Eva (Metz) Miller. She attended school at Bauer. After completing school, she helped neighboring families around their home and with child care. She met Keith Ripperger in Bauer with some friends in 1949. They were married on January 22, 1951. They were blessed with six children: Janet, Leroy, Randy, Raymond, Rachel, and Tracy. She raised her family on the farm near Bauer. She was always cooking, baking, and making hand made clothes for her family. She enjoyed quilting and made many many quilts for her family. After the children were grown, she was a cook for Melcher-Dallas Schools and then for Meals on Wheels in Lacona. Rita and Keith regularly attended country music jams and often attended the show in Rathbun. They also enjoyed playing cards, especially solo. Rita was very active in her church and neighborhood over the years and continued being active after moving to Lacona in 1992. She was the family historian and kept a daily journal documenting the day's events and weather. Rita passed away on December 18, 2016. She is survived by her children: Janet (Kevin) Smith, Leroy (Melody) Ripperger, Randy (Mary) Ripperger, Raymond (Melissa) Ripperger, Rachel Ripperger, and Tracy (Eric) Reeg; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandsons; and siblings: Allen (Karen) Miller, Darrell (Marlene) Miller, Phyllis Ripperger, Wilfred (Joyce) Miller, Marie (Bob) Glass, and Paulene (Roger) Wadle. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Eva (Metz) Miller; her husband of 60 years, Keith Ripperger; son-in-law, Doyle Schurman; and siblings: Rosemary Bauer, Dolores Bauer, and Clarence Miller.
