Rick D. Lang

August 3, 1958 — February 7, 2022

A Celebration of Life for Ricky D. Lang, 63, of Melcher-Dallas, will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Columbia Community Center in Columbia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Rick's name to the Knoxville VFW 3519 or the Columbia Community Center. Rick passed away on February 7, 2022, at the Veterans Affair Health Center in Des Moines.

Rick was born on August 3, 1958, to Ralph and Bonnie Byers Lang in Knoxville. He was the oldest of three children. The family lived on a farm southeast Melcher, where Rick lived most of his life. He graduated from Melcher-Dallas High School Class of 1977. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army. He completed basic training at Ft. Leonardwood and stationed at Ft Hood in Texas. He married Diane Chambers on June 7, 1978, to this union they were blessed with Justin and Aaron. The couple later divorced.

He drove a semi-truck for many different companies: Smith’s Fertilizer & Grain, Thorco, Brooks, DS & CC Trucking, Rocky Smith Farms, Roozenboom Trucking, and Binn Shinn Trucking. He had a love for trucks and seeing all the world had to offer along the way.

No one was a stranger to Rick; he could talk for hours. He was the one you could call at any moment and know that he would answer. He had many friends and would give anyone the shirt of his back just to help. A good man is not enough to describe him, he was a selfless, caring, and compassionate man especially to the greatest love in his life, his family. He worked away from home most of his life, so he enjoyed every bit of time he had after retirement. During those years on the road one thing, he always had those boys on his mind, and they never knew what surprises he had when he would come home. He never wanted to leave them when it was time to go back out. He liked helping with all the farm work, boating, riding side by sides, anything as long as his family was beside him. He never turned down an opportunity for a road trip and made a great copilot with his many different directions on how to get there and back.

Rick will be missed by his sons, Justin (Sarah) Lang and Aaron (Erin) Lang; grandchildren: Ava, Natalie, Autumn, Tyler, and Tristen; siblings, Holly (Wayne) Hoelscher and Randy Lang; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph and Bonnie.
