Services for Raymond Mullins, 85, will be Friday, May 2nd, at 11:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church in Chariton. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Condolences may be left for the family at www.pierschbacherfuneralhome.com . In lieu of flowers memorials to the First Lutheran Church. Raymond was born May 27, 1922 on the family farm near Newbern to Lewis and Mary Feight Mullins. He was the youngest of five children and attended school near Newbern and graduated from Chariton High School in 1940. Raymond worked on the farm with his father until 1943, when he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served as a guard on the U.S. Troop Transport 'USS General Harry Taylor'. The ship docked in various ports both in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. He received his discharge in 1946. Raymond belonged to the American Legion in Chariton. Raymond married Mary Hesselgesser in 1946. They were blessed with three children: Linda, Stephen, and Elaine. Raymond farmed until 1954. He worked for Hy-Vee until his retirement in 1986. He was active in the First Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, socializing, and spending time with his family and wife of 61 years Mary. He was preceded in death by his four siblings: Vernie Mullins, Maudie Roberts, Elva Brewer, and Zelma Mahalic. Raymond passed away April 28, 2008 at the Lucas County Health Center. Raymond is survived by his wife Mary of Chariton; children: Linda (Larry) Coffman of Chariton, Stephen (Nancy Lepic) Mullins of Whitefish Bay, WI, and Elaine (Gary) Harper of Des Moines; 6 grandchildren: Garth Coffman, Judd Coffman, Shae Coffman, Alexis Harper, Emily Harper, and Maddie Coffman; and 4 great grandchildren: Greer, Zoe, Brady, and Molly.
