Phyllis June Davis Cremeens

January 11, 1943 — February 3, 2017

A Celebration of Life will be held in Melcher-Dallas at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home on Saturday, February 11, 2017 from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. A time to share memories will begin at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Phyllis asked for donations to be made to Hope Ministries PO Box 862 Des Moines, IA 50304 or the Melcher-Dallas Library. Phyllis June Davis Cremeens, 74, went home to spend eternity with her savior, Jesus Christ, on February 3rd, 2017. She was born in Knoxville, Iowa on January 11, 1943, grew up in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa and graduated in 1961 from Melcher High School. She had many friends and good times in Melcher-Dallas. Phyllis raised her children while she worked on the family dairy farm for 26 years. She then went to work for Principal Insurance in Des Moines and retired in 2000. After retirement, she and her daughter Kay opened de Candij Keuken in Pella. They served up chocolates, ice cream and good cheer to the customers that came in for a light lunch and a slice of Phyllis and Kay's delicious homemade pie. Phyllis's sister, Jan, also worked with them and they shared many memorable times in the candy store. When they sold the business several years later, Phyllis then helped another daughter, Kim, with her current business, The Branded Barn. She sewed thousands of pieces that were sold all over the United States and even a few internationally. In addition to sewing for income, she also crafted many quilts and spent hundreds of hours creating large hand cross-stitched photos of each grandchild. She loved to stay busy and productive. Even as her health failed, she continued to frustrate her kids by never taking time to rest or relax; she had to have a task in hand at all times. Her family and friends will remember how much she loved life. Her greatest pride was her family. She loved to spend time with her sisters, cousins, aunts, kids and grandchildren. There are fond memories of making Christmas candy with her kids, playing games with the grandchildren, baking and eating anything sweet including pies, ice cream, and cinnamon rolls. Phyllis loved doing puzzles, roller skating, dancing, motorcycling, quilting, and attending garage sales. She was game to try anything including whitewater rafting, rock climbing, snow-shoeing and dog sledding. She loved to travel and in the last decade, she toured Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Russia, Mackinac Island, and her favorite, Israel. Phyllis had a great faith in the Lord and was a member of Cornerstone Church in Zearing, IA. Her greatest lesson to those she is leaving behind is to love God above all things and that family and relationships are more important than any material possessions. She lived these lessons and always put others first. She loved to help people and would stop by to assist or visit with elderly friends, often putting her own needs aside to accommodate others. Even during her illness and in her death she continued to teach those lessons of faith and caring for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Phyllis wished to thank all for their prayers and support throughout her life and especially during her most recent time of declining health. Phyllis is survived by her five children: Cindy (Kelly) Toth of Austin, Texas, Kevin (Donna) Seuferer and their children: John and Paul of Osceola, Iowa, Kay Seuferer of Collins, Iowa, Kim (Todd) Flynn and their children: Amanda, Melissa (deceased), Casey, Jamie, and Chance of Nevada, Iowa, Kelly (Natasha) Seuferer and their children: Vanessa, Nicolas, and Kate of Kearney, Missouri; siblings: Jan (Dean) Shinn of Knoxville, Iowa, Patti (Garry) Fisher of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, Jim (Becky) DeJoode of Pella, Iowa, and Fred DeJoode of Boulder, Colorado, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
