Orlo Alexander

Orlo Alexander, 84, of Melcher-Dallas passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Westridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Knoxville. Orlo was born to James & Minnie (Wallace) Alexander on September 9, 1928 in Liberty Center, Iowa. He married Lillian June Burgett on December 24, 1945 in Cool, Iowa. Orlo served his country in the United States Army Corps entering in 1949. After leaving the service Orlo worked as a delivery driver, welder, owned his own garage and worked as a mechanic. He also drove a truck for a time hauling grain and would pass it down to his kids. Orlo was in to horse pulling and dancing. His two loves were; farming and racing modified stock cars and sprint cars, both of which he would pass down to numerous family members. He won the championship at the Chariton Race Track in the late 50's and still holds a track record of 19:28 at the Newton Race Track. Survivors include: a companion, Ila Mae Nine of Melcher-Dallas, eight children: James & Linda Alexander of Lacona, Sherry & Thomas Whitham of Corydon, Jerry & LuAnn Alexander of Melcher-Dallas, Terry & Vicky Alexander of Knoxville, Donna & Rick Stek of Oskaloosa, Marion & Dee Alexander of Harvey, Rick & Lisa Alexander of Melcher-Dallas, Rodney & Miki Alexander of Melcher-Dallas, 26 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian June Alexander, granddaughter, Melissa Alexander, grandson, Jason Whitham, great grandson, Michael Douglass, parents, siblings: Horace, Tom, Raymond, Robert, Henry Alexander and Hazel Ball. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Visitation will be Saturday from 9-11:00 a.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Jude's Hospital. Condolences may be left at www.pierschbacherfuneralhome.com.
