Melzine Roberts

Melzine Roberts, 91 of Chariton passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at her home. Melzine was born in Stuart, Iowa to Bruce & Orilda (Gilbert) Flesher on February 20, 1923. Melzine was married to Richard Beane. To this union one daughter was born, Eileen. Melzine and Richard later divorced. On August 10, 1962, Melzine was united in marriage to Donald Roberts in Princeton, Missouri. Melzine held many jobs throughout her life, but being a homemaker was what she loved best. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, canning, fishing, mushroom hunting, BINGO, cooking and time spent with her family and friends. Most of all though she loved family and getting together for evenings of card games and coffee or just visiting around the kitchen table. Melzine loved baseball. She spent many years listening to and watching the World Series and recording each pitch and play as they happened. She has records of the World Series that date back to the 1950's. Survivors include her daughter, Eileen M. Graves (Charles C. II) of Chariton; stepdaughter, Judy Church and family of Murray; grandson, Charles Graves III (Jenni) of Chariton; granddaughter, Cheryl Downard (Jeffrey) of Chariton; 11 great grandchildren: Christina (Brett) Jenkins of LaCygne, KS; Andrew Downard of Chariton; Ashley Musick of Chariton; Tiffany Graves of Loveland, CO; Tyler (Danielle) Graves of Chariton; Ashley (Josh) Pease of Southwest City, MO; Chelsea Musick (Justin Van Den Top) of Ames; Aaron Graves of Loveland, CO; Ridge Downard of Corydon; Austin Gee of Chariton; and Alison Gee of Chariton; two great great grandchildren with one more on the way. She is also survived by two siblings: Gayla Joyce Burk of Chariton and Donald Gene Flesher (Cathy) of Moscow, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald Roberts and five siblings: Willard Flesher, Willis Flesher, Maxine Brittain, Darline Sedars and Darrell Flesher. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be in Humeston Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be given to the family.
