Mary Flanders, 88, of Des Moines and formerly of Melcher-Dallas passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Mary was born to Charles & Leta (White) Burgett in Dallas, Iowa on February 12, 1928. She received her education from Dallas High School. Mary was united in marriage to Joe Dillie, they would later divorce. To this union was on daughter, JoAnne. She would later be united in marriage to Charles Flanders. Mary worked in the handicraft industry for years. She was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Melcher-Dallas and a current member of Grandview Church of Christ in Des Moines. She enjoyed reading, photography and time spent with her family and friends. She also enjoyed working on crafts and showing at the Iowa State Fair. When the weather was warm, Mary enjoyed being outdoors. Survivors include two sisters, Bev Beals of Knoxville, and Sandy Simmons of Des Moines; and a son-in-law, Robert Miller of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her daughter, JoAnne Miller; first husband, Joe Dillie; and lifelong husband, Charles Flanders. Visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2016 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. No service will take place. Interment will be at Dallas Cemetery.
