Marty Schurman

Mass of Christian Burial for Marty Schurman, 55, of Lacona, will be Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona. Family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona with a Rosary being held at 3:30 p.m. Memorials in memory of Marty will be designated at a later date. Martin Wayne Schurman was born February 26, 1962, in Chariton, Iowa to Wayne and Marilyn Schurman. Marty grew up in Lacona and graduated from SEW High School in 1980. He went to Northwest Missouri State graduating in 1985. After graduation, he worked for Mid-Continent a few years then went to Tension Envelope where he worked with friends for 30 years. Marty loved to fish, golf, mushroom hunt, and play poker. He loved to do all of these things with his family and friends. Many memories were made on the fishing trips to Canada. He loved to tell stories and did not know a stranger. Marty touched many lives with his kind heart and great sense of humor. Marty did not have children of his own but; his nephews were like sons to him. He loved to take them fishing and to tease and play games. Marty was close to his entire family and will be greatly missed in their lives, but will always be remembered. Marty passed away June 13, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He is survived by his parents: Wayne and Marilyn Schurman; sisters: Marcia (David) Krieger, Shelly (Dave) Reynolds, Jolene Schurman, and Jackie (Dave) Squier; nephews: Cody Reynolds, Bart Stanley, Chase Reynolds, and Casey Dollison; a great niece, Lola Shriver; a great nephew, Theo Reynolds; along with many relatives and friends.
