Marjorie Bingham

Marjorie Beryl Bingham, 90, of Chariton passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Circle of Life Hospice - Legacy Lodge. Marjorie was born to Herbert & Lucy (Patterson) Stansbery in Derby on September 11, 1923. Her early years were spent in the Derby and Goshen area and she 'boarded' so she could graduate from Chariton High School, in 1940. She also met that 'ornery' Bill Bingham while attending high school and they were married September 8, 1942. They were blessed with five Children, Dennis, Mike, Brenda, Cindy and Cathy. After graduation and marriage Marge and Bill traveled to Louisiana for work then came back to Chariton at which time Bill was drafted into the Army. She then traveled with him to the East Coast for basic training and when he went overseas she spent her time worrying about his safety and at irregular intervals she received censored letters while she worked many different jobs in Chariton and Des Moines. After the Army, Marjorie and Bill traveled to numerous job sites over the years as he worked for Chicago Bridge & Iron Company. After the death of Bill's father they relocated in Chariton and the two ran a Café, 'Marge and Bill's' for several years. After the café was sold, Marjorie spent her time at their family farm, mowing during the summer and tending her flowers. There was always cookies, cakes and something good to eat whenever family and friends stopped by for a visit or when her children came home from school. Just opening the cupboard door, you knew a treat would be waiting Marjorie and Bill enjoyed listening to WLS moving from job to job listening to the old country and western songs, honky tonk and blue grass. Marjorie enjoyed this music and listening to Van and Bonnie, and watching RFD-TV. Marjorie was a Member of Pleasant Prairie Methodist Church and transferred her membership to the United Methodist church in Chariton when the 'Little Red Church' closed. Marjorie and Bill enjoyed their friends from Pleasant Prairie and the friendships continued throughout their lives. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. Marjorie and Bill did some traveling in later years, going to San Diego and Hawaii to visit family. You really couldn't say Marge without adding Bill and Bill without adding Marge. Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Lucy Stansbery, her in-laws Charles and Alice Bingham, Her Husband Bill and Son Dennis, Son-in-law Steve Evans, Brothers Daryl, Clifford, Gerald, Keith and Dick, Sister's, Marilyn and Beverly. She is survived by Son Mike (Pat) Bingham, Daughters, Brenda (Jim) Miner of Cambria, Cindy Evans of Des Moines, Cathy (Wayne) Towle of Pella 11 Grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, Sister's Joan (Don) Kingsbury of Indianola, Janet (Marvin) Cottrell, of Davenport, Audrey McKnight of Carlisle and Lucille (Dick) Young of Chariton, Sister-in-Law, Karen Stansbery Chariton Jane Stansbery Des Moines, Many Nieces and Nephews and Her special chatting Friend Doris
