Memorials may be made in Margaret's memory to the First Baptist Church or the Chariton Senior Center. Margaret Mae Kirchner was born January 5, 1931 on a farm near Humeston, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Ed and Isabel (Coffey) Kirchner. She attended Lucerne Country School for 8 years then graduated from Cambria High School in 1948. She then attended the Iowa State Teacher's College (now the University of Northern Iowa). After her schooling Margaret taught for twelve years in various communities in Iowa, ending her teaching days in Williamson to begin her next career as a homemaker and mother. On June 14, 1959 she was married to Albert "Jim" Kridelbaugh at the Cambria Baptist Church. They made their home in Chariton and have lived in the same house since June of 1959. They were blessed with two children: LeAnn and John. Once both of her children were in school, Margaret went back to the classroom as a substitute teacher in Lucas County Schools for many years before becoming a teacher at TENCO. She devoted years of her life to teaching mentally handicapped adults and helping them develop their potential. She was also an adjunct teacher for Indian Hills Community College before retiring in 1996. Margaret loved her family most of all and throughout her life she devoted the majority of her time to her children and grandchildren. The family camped and traveled together, and they always found a way to take a summer camping vacation with the children. Jim and Margaret enjoyed camping near the Iowa State Fair each year where they volunteered in the information booth. They earned their 10 year volunteer award before Jim's death in 2007. Margaret was an active volunteer in the community throughout her life. In addition to founding and teaching a Sunday School class for mentally handicapped adults for over 40 years, she was active in 4H, and upon retirement spent time volunteering at the Chariton nursing and assisted living facilities. She and Jim were named volunteers of the year at the Chariton Manor in 2004-2005. She taught current events while Jim helped with activities. Most recently she was a regular volunteer at the Chariton Senior Center where she checked people in for lunch because she knew everyone in the community by name. Margaret's faith was very important to her from a young age. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at the age of 13, and has been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Chariton since June of 1959. She taught Sunday School many of these years with the BYKOTA Sunday School Class and organized camping experiences with them and other TENCO clients for many years. She was always ready to help with anything needed at the church as long as she was able. Many health challenges arose in Margaret's later years. She was well known and loved by the staff at the Lucas County Health Center where she went home to her Savior on May 27th. Preceding her in death were her parents: Ed and Isabel; her husband, Jim; and her sister, Janice Relph. She will be greatly missed by her children: LeAnn Kridelbaugh, MD and husband H. Leslie Moore, MD of Dallas, Texas, and John and wife Suzanne Kridelbaugh of Cambridge, Ohio; grandchildren: Abby (Alex) Goebel, Allison, Alex, and Asa Kridelbaugh; sister, Marietta Tuttle of Chariton; along with many special nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends including her dear friend and confidante who was like a sister, Juanita Nielsen.
