Margaret Eleanor Dittmer

Margaret Eleanor (Schurman) Dittmer, 100, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Good Samaritan in Indianola, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 24, 2015 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona with a Rosary beginning at 5:00 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. A lunch will be served following the services. Margaret was born March 10, 1915 on a farm northeast of Lacona, Iowa in Rosemont Parish to Frank and Suzanna (Heinen) Schurman. On January 14, l936, Margaret was united in marriage to Robert J. Dittmer at St. Mary's Catholic Church at Rosemont. She had a deep solid faith. She belonged to St. Mary's Altar Society and is fondly remembered with Donut Sunday at St. Mary's by many. She also was a 4H leader for many years. She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved making bread, pies, noodles. Some of her specialties were pigs-in-the-blanket, maple twist and she always had cookies for whoever stopped in. Margaret spent many hours lovingly crocheting afghans, hot pads and hangers for all her family. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; her son, Micheal; daughters-in-law: Virginia Dittmer and Marilyn Dittmer; and son-in-law, Jerry Sternquist. She is survived by her 10 children: Franklin (Charlotte) Dittmer; Germain (Mary Ellen) Dittmer, Roberta (Richard) Burnett, Ruby (Neil) Moon, daughter-in-law, Jolene Dittmer - all of Lacona; Mary Lou (Leon) Hartogh of Marion; Lola Sternquist, Deloris (Donald) Van Ryswyk - all of Indianola; Wendell (Vicki) Dittmer of Ackworth; Matthew (Becky) Dittmer of Des Moines; and Marjorie (Steven) Worley of Broken Arrow, OK; daughter-in-law, Helen Dittmer of Live Oaks, FL; 44 grandchildren; 86 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. Margaret's family appreciates the loving care that she received while at the Good Samaritan. Donations may be given to the following: HCI Hospice Care Services, Knoxville, Iowa; St. Mary's Church, Lacona, Iowa; and Good Samaritan, Indianola, Iowa.
