M. Jeanette Thompson

August 11, 1928 — June 21, 2016

Mary Jeanette Wright, the daughter of George and Marie (Davis) Wright, was born August 17, 1928 in Russell, Iowa. She passed away on June 21, 2016 at the age of 87. Jeanette was a resident of Russell, Iowa all of her life, with the exception of eight years spent living in Chariton, Iowa. On April 25, 1943, she was baptized and joined the Russell Faith United Methodist Church. She attended the Russell School, graduating with the class of 1946. Upon graduation, she was employed in the Chariton Wholesale Grocery offices until December 1949. Then in November 1963, she returned to work for the same company under Hyde & Vredenburg, Inc. and worked until March 1969. Jeanette was united in marriage to Dean Thompson on January 1, 1950. They established a home on a farm northeast of Russell. Two sons were born to this union, Ron and Paul. A new house was built in Russell and the family moved there in March 1969. At the time of her death, Jeanette was a member of Russell Faith United Methodist Church. She was a communion steward for several years and a member of the Happiness Circle. Jeanette was a loving daughter to her parents, a faithful wife, and a loving and kind mother and grandmother. The most important things in her life were her family and friends. She enjoyed the beauty of nature, the trees, the flowers, gardens and birds. She shared her interest of flowers and birds with her friends, young and old. She found happiness with nature and wildlife and saw the seasons change with a mixture of awe and gratitude. Jeanette gave her devoted attention to her husband, children and grandchildren who were her source of strength and comfort. She was happiest when she could share in their lives and accomplishments. She treasured a collection of commemorative bird plates. She also had a collection of Madonnas and angels. For several years she and her husband enjoyed spending winter months in Arizona. They were able to spend time with their son, Paul and family and other relatives. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who shared her love and friendship. A mother's love is forever---nothing can take it from you, for it lives in your heart and memories and is a part of all that you do. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Virginia Cisna; and her husband of 62 years, Dean Thompson. She is survived by her sons, Ron (Robin) Thompson of Russell and Paul (Mary) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; 5 grandchildren: Tracey Adolphi, Tucker (Amy) Thompson, Alysha (Danny Ranf) Thompson, Nicholas Thompson, and Peter (Stacy) Lopez; 5 great grandsons: Bryon Lopez, Cullen Adolphi, Conner Adolphi, Cooper Adolphi, and Calvin Thompson; 4 great granddaughters: Elexis Lopez, Hayleigh Ranf, Sophia Thompson, and Lyla Thompson; sister, Pat Blue of Chariton; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Russell.
