Lavonna Sivill

February 6, 1933 — August 9, 2019

On August 9, Lavonna Jeanne (Freeman) Sivill, passed away with her family, in Boise, Idaho at the age of 86. Lavonna was the youngest of eight children, born to Mary Isabelle "Belle" Landis and Jessie "Pearl" Freeman in Lacona, Iowa, February 6, 1933. She attended the one-room school house, where she met, and later married the love of her life, Walter Sivill. The two married February 11, 1953. Lavonna followed him in the service during the honeymoon years. They eventually settled in Chariton and started a family in 1955 with the birth of their son, Terry and added a second son, Gary in 1958. Lavonna (and Walter) loved to go dancing, play cards, and socialize with friends and family. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and even great-grandmother. She filled her spare time baking several batches of cookies and pies per day. Lavonna's cooking was exceptional. Anyone who stopped by the farm to visit was guaranteed to enjoy a cup of coffee and snack in addition to the always good conversation. Lavonna liked tending to her flowers/garden, playing the piano, and preferably winning a friendly game of cribbage. Lavonna started her working career as an office administrator at Van Allen Elementary shortly after her boys started school. A few years later, she changed jobs and began working as the principal's secretary at Columbus Elementary. There, she met longtime friend Jaynee Gilderbloom, "Miss G." They would work together for many years after, shaping children's lives in the community. It was not uncommon for former students to stop Lavonna on the street and thank her for her kindness, guidance, and the extra attention even years later. Lavonna sincerely treasured the wonderful people around her. Lavonna's sister, Esther, said their relationship as indescribably special, saying "they were the two youngest and were both sisters and friends." Her children and grandchildren appreciated everything she did for them. The grandchildren especially, benefitted from her spoiling, which included the famous homemade cookies, farm visits, ballgame cheering, and a magic closet bearing gifts. Lavonna was preceded in death by her sweetheart, Walter Gerald Sivill, and son Gary Alan Sivill. She was survived by her son, Terry (Dianne) Sivill of Boise, ID, daughter in law Jayne Sivill, and sister Esther Maxine Walker of Albany, OR. Also surviving grandchildren: Katie (Corey & Child Henry) Heiser, Ryan (Elizabeth & Daughters Avery and Paisley) Sivill, Sarah (Joe) Hull, and Elizabeth (Trevor) Reger, Lewis (Carrie & Children Karst and Kennedy) Stoddard, and Grayson (Jen & Children Carter and Oakley) Stoddard. Viewing will be held Friday, August 23rd from 5 to 7pm. Funeral services for Lavonna will be held Saturday, August 24th, 2019 at 10am at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton with interment at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Lavonna's name to the Alzheimer's Association. Cemetery Details Mt. Zion Cemetery Lacona, IA
