Kenneth Beebout

Kenneth Beebout, 98, of Columbia passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Knoxville Hospital and Clinics. Kenneth was born on September 17, 1915 on his parent's farm near Columbia, the first child of Tyler & Blanche (Agan) Beebout. He attended school in Columbia and Knoxville High School and Central College in Pella. Kenneth served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Other than the four years Mr. Beebout served in the military, he lived his entire life on the Beebout Century Farm. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mr. Beebout immediately enlisted in the Army as a medic. Basic training was spent at Camp Grant, Illinois and then on to Fort Ord, California. Kenneth would later be assigned to the 253 Station Hospital to go to the Pacific Theatre. He was then reassigned the day before he would leave for the Pacific Theatre to England in anticipation of D-Day, the invasion of Normandy. He would return home, back to the family farm in October 1945. On September 8, 1946, Kenneth would be united in marriage to Evelyn Shepard at the Chariton Presbyterian Church. They would celebrate six children and 67 years of marriage. Kenneth farmed with his half-brother, Leon 'Buck' Beebout for 33 years until his health forced him in to retirement. He served on the Farm Bureau Board for many years and was president from 1966-1968. He would also volunteer his time to the Extension Council, Columbia School Board and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years at his church where he became a member in 1927. Kenneth Beebout was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed by numerous family and friends. Survivors include, wife, Evelyn of Columbia, five children: Mary Beebout of Newton, Warren (Jan) Beebout of Stevens Point, WI, Wayne (Joyce) Beebout of Cedarburg, WI, Charlie (Mary) of Colorado Springs, CO, Cheryl Booth of North Richland Hills, TX, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding him were his parents, daughter, Nancy Phillips, granddaughter, Emily Beebout, brother, Howard Beebout and two half-brothers: Carl and Buck. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Columbia United Methodist Church with Rev. Brent Hanna officiating. Interment will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be given to Columbia United Methodist Church or Columbia Fire & Rescue.
