Visitation will be one hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Place of rest will be in Chariton Cemetery with her husband, Dave. Memorials may be given to the family. Judy was born to Harry & Marjorie (Esse) Braisted in Laramie, Wyoming on July 5, 1940. She moved to Colorado with her family at 9 years of age where she received her education from Denver North High School in Denver, Colorado. While living in Denver, she met Dave Karn. The two were united in marriage on July 7, 1958 in Wayne County, Iowa. Judy and Dave relocated to Chariton from Colorado in 1958 to start a family. The couple had five children: Terri, Penny, Lori Anne, Mike, and Jon J. Judy worked at Super Value in Chariton for a time and also painted signs for businesses around town and portraits for people. Her favorite job description in her life was simply 'mom' and she loved all babies. Instead of her saying 'good-by', she said 'I'll be here'. Judy had many hobbies that included: reading, gardening, listening to 'tunes', and spending time with her family. She had a great sense of humor and loved to make others laugh. She was quite the joker and would stick candy on her face to make kids laugh. She was also known to go into town with her hair curlers in. Judy loved animals of all kind. She had numerous bird feeders and loved watching the hummingbirds around the yard. Survivors include her children: Terri Conway of Urbana, IL; Mike Karn (Pam) of Chariton; and Jon J. Karn of Denver, CO. Also surviving are granchildren: BJ Conway, Kira Bartlemus, Clell Conner, Tara Conway, Harley Karn, Colton Karn, Tori Karn, Dakota Karn and Cherub Karn; three great grandchildren; her brother, Jon Braisted (Connie); and her sister, Janice Weaver (Bill). She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Karn on October 26, 2013; infant daughter, Lori Anne Karn; daughter, Penny Conner in 2000; great grandson, Cassidy Dunsmoor; parents; and sister, Vicki Hanson.
