Joyce E. Peterson, 77 of Chariton, passed away September 19, 2015. Services will be Saturday, September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Legacy Lodge Hospice or the Niswender Cemetery Fund. Online condolences may be shared at www.piershcbacherfuneralhome.com Joyce Elizabeth Jennings was born on October 12, 1937 to Harry and Maxine Jennings at their home in Chariton, Iowa. She attended Chariton High School. Joyce was united in marriage to Don Peterson on March 4, 1954. To this union, four children were born: Cindy, Michael Paul, Mala, and Paul Scott. The couple was also blessed with eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Joyce held a variety of jobs over the years, including working at the Ritz Theatre, Hy-Vee Food Store, Jones Pharmacy, and Regal Stamp. She was also active on the farm, helping Don with everyday farming. Joyce loved taking care of her family and spoiling her great grandchildren. She loved visiting with her kids, grandchildren, friends, and family. Joyce loved family gatherings playing pinnacle. Family and friends were Joyce's passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain while camping and boating. Joyce loved dancing and for several years went square dancing. She was always cooking and baking, and was a superb candy maker. Joyce was great with finances and knew how to save a dollar. Her wisdom with money was taught to many and at times was the family banker making sure those had what they needed. Joyce enjoyed reading a good book and the daily newspaper, painting the house, going to the casino, and shopping for bargains. She loved to work around the yard, tending to her flowers and gardening. Joyce was a caring, giving, and generous person; always there to help anyone in need. She took care of her mom and was always looking out for Don. We will forever love and miss, her love and generosity. She will be dearly missed by many. Preceding her in death were her parents: Harry and Maxine Jennings; son, Michael Paul Peterson; son-in-law, Jeff Moody; siblings: Shirley McCauley and Robert Jennings; nephew Bruce Jennings; aunt, Nadine Hickman; and cousin, Randy Hickman . Surviving are her husband, Don; children: Cindy Masters-Moody, Mala (Randy) Thomas, Paul Scott Peterson (Danielle Wilson); her beloved dog, Skippy; grandchildren: Chad (Carie) Masters, Kyla Thomas, Aimee Keith, Seth (Hilary) Masters, Michael Tyler Thomas, Andy (Sarah) Peterson, Shane (Patricia) Moody, and Melissa (Robbie) Colburn; and 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with mother-in-law, Martha Peterson; sister-in-law, Sharon; cousin, Tom (Gwen) Sinclair; and numerous nieces and nephews . Visitation
