Joseph "Joe" Danner

January 24, 1957 — May 25, 2015

Joseph Lee Danner, 58, of Derby was born January 24, 1957 and left this earth on May 25, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will follow in the Last Chance Cemetery. Joe attended school at Mormon Trail and church and Sunday school at Last Chance. He was a boy scout. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms and arrowheads with his brother and sister. He loved camping out and having cook outs. Joe played hard and worked harder, doing chores and working in the fields with his family. He had a natural talent for operating farm equipment and later working road construction for several different companies. He joined the United States Army when he was 17 and when he came home he married Rhonda Ansley. They married and divorced twice, but they were both proud of their daughter, Rachel. Rachel fondly remembers the hair pulling contests that she had with her father when she was very young. Joe married Sandra Hawk and they were parents of one daughter, Jena, and one son, Tom. They divorced when the children were young. He loved all three of his children. Joe wore a lot of different hats - he was blessed with many talents; from dirt work to writing poems and short stories and making necklaces out of silver dollars. He liked guns and knives, taking chances and teasing everyone. His nieces and nephews knew him as "Uncle Vulgar" and recall him ending every phone conversation with "shut up" instead of "goodbye". He was intelligent and loving. He hid a big tender heart beneath a tough exterior and survived a lot of troubled times. He was an independent thinker and got a big kick out of being labeled nonconformist even though it caused him problems at times. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Danner; both sets of grandparents; several sets of aunts and uncles; a niece; and a great nephew. He is survived by his mother, Grace Peterson; children: Rachel Langford (Brandon), Jena Wiley, and Thomas Danner; grandson, Evan Langford; siblings, John Danner (Bernice), and Debra Storm (Gary); nieces and nephews: Jerry, Jim, Jessica, Joel, Angela, Amy, and Adam; and many relatives and friends.
