John Hudson

April 21, 1920 — January 7, 2008

John was born near Russell, Iowa on April 21, 1920 to Roy & Ida Hudson and then graduated from Millerton High School in 1939. He married Dorothy McAninch on August 10, 1940 in Princeton, Missouri. They were blessed with 11 children: Billie Jean, Judi, Elaine, Johnny, Jim, Jan, Ron, Lorrie, Wanda, Rex, and Tami. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was a member of the American Legion in Pleasantville. John retired from Vermeer in 1982; he had also worked at the concrete plant in Prairie City, drove a truck, worked for John Deere, worked in a coal mine, and was a mechanic among other things. He was a hard worker and instilled a good work ethic into his children. John enjoyed collecting toy tractors, wood working, and music. He played guitar and sang with his family and friends. John loved babies and children as he always enjoyed all his grandchildren. John passed away January 7, 2008 at the Pleasant Care Center in Pleasantville at the age of 87. Preceding John in death is a son Johnny; granddaughter Teresa Gadberry; daughter-in-law Carol Hudson; sons-in-law: Jerry Roberts and Jerry Koder; and a sister Juanita Brewer. John is survived by his wife Dorothy; children: Billie Jean (Al) Neff of Pleasant Hill, Judi (Dharl) Bagley of Altoona, Elaine Koder of Des Moines, Jim (Cindy) Hudson of Des Moines, Jan (Rod) King of Kimberling City, MO., Ron (Lonna) Hudson of Pleasantville, Lorrie (Mike) Bjorgo of Ankeny, Wanda (Dizz) Conrad of Knoxville, Rex (Judy) Hudson of Oroville, CA., and Tami (Tim) Counts of MD; sisters: Martha Green (Gail) of Dallas TX., and Sally McFarland of Bettendorf; 29 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and 17 great great grandchildren.
