JoAnn Drake

JoAnn Drake passed away December 31, 2012 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice in Chariton at the age of 82 years. Services will be Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Arnold Cemetery near Lacona. Memorials are requested to the Legacy Lodge Hospice in Chariton. JoAnn was born October 11, 1930 in Knoxville, Iowa to Dorsie and Mary (Brooks) Beeman. She graduated from Dallas High School in 1948. On May 16, 1948 she was married to John Edward Drake. They were blessed with six children: Rebecca, John Jr., Clarissa, Leath (Chip), Danette, and Lori. JoAnn enjoyed traveling, camping, and being with her family. She loved her little home in Lacona and became greatly involved with the senior/community center and enjoyed socializing with her friends. She was a great cook and her grandchildren will remember her Macaroni soup. Preceding JoAnn in death were her parents; husband, John; great granddaughter, Carly Shelton; brother, Richard Beeman; and son-in-law, Skip Nelson. Surviving are children: Rebecca Nelson of Pleasantville, John (Judy) Drake Jr. of Windsor Heights, Clarissa (Ron) Shelton of Lacona, Chip (Betty) Drake of Davenport, Danette (Tim) Zisoff of Indianola, Lori (Joe) Hogue of Monroe. Also surviving are grandchildren: Chad (Sherri) DeJoode, Ryan DeJoode, Darin (Amy) Drake, Daric (Danyel) Drake, Danel (Sara) Drake, Ronda Shelton, Adam (Lacey) Shelton, Andrew (Laura) Shelton, Katie (Shawn) Drake Sampson, Jered (Sarah) Drake, Josh (Brandy) Zisoff, Eric (Sadie) Zisoff, Drake Hogue, and Jaelyn Hogue; 23 great grandchildren; sisters: Alleyne Haug and Judy Wilson; and many relatives and friends.
