Jerry Goemaat

Graveside funeral services for Jerry Goemaat, 75, will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 at 11 AM at the Ridlen Cemetery near Knoxville. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion in Melcher-Dallas. Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas is arranging the service. Jerry D. Goemaat was born in Des Moines, Iowa on July 11, 1940. He was raised in Melcher-Dallas by Abe and Josephine (Reeser) Goemaat and graduated from Melcher High School in 1958. He entered the Navy in 1958 and served on the USS John R. Craig a destroyer class escort. He served until 1961. After returning home, he married Barb Henry and they were blessed with five children: Julie, Jerry, Jody, Christina, and Bruce. They had a dairy farm in Marion and in Warren counties before moving to Knoxville. Jerry began driving a truck during this time, and was an owner/operator for 50 years He enjoyed driving over the road, and seeing the country. He was married to Sandra Roland on May 22, 1976 and they were blessed with four children: David, Patty, Erin, and Rachel. Jerry was very involved with the American Legion Post 632 in Melcher-Dallas. He was a past post commander and always helped with the honor guard, placing flags at cemeteries and all post activities. He was a patriotic and passionate man and found purpose in his work. He was always willing to help those who needed assistance and will be remembered for his big heart and strong will. Jerry passed away at his home on September 29, 2015 of heart failure at the age of 75 years. Surviving are his wife, Sandra; children: Julie (Kelvin) Schultz, Jerry Wayne (Vickie) Goemaat, Tina (Leo) Wadle, David Wright Jr., Bruce (Helen) Goemaat, Erin (Justin Kamerick) Gravett, and Rachel (Mike) Cecil; 24 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving are many relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents: Abe and Josephine; daughters: Jody Lynn Goemaat and Patricia Wright Parks; and a sister, Cheryl Rupp. Cemetery Details Ridlen Cemetery Newbold Rd
