Jay Fisher

Masonic Services for Jay Fisher, 71, will be Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. No other services or visitation is planned. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church in Chariton or the D.A.R.E. Program in care of the Lucas County Law Center. Jay was born January 28, 1939 in Boone, Iowa to Harold and Kay Keeley Fisher. He graduated from Boone High School in 1957. He was married to Georgia Backous on September 1, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Boone. They were blessed with a daughter, Coral. He served in The Navy from 1957 until 1959, during the Cuban Blockade. In 1961, Jay began working for the Iowa State Patrol and moved to Chariton. He worked for the State Patrol until 1976 when he became Chief of Police in Chariton, where he served until he retired in 1994. Jay was dedicated, honest, and loved his work. He wanted to do a good job and sincerely cared about his fellow officers. Jay was highly respected by those he worked with. Jay was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golfing and gardening. Jay will be missed by his wife, Georgia 'Peg' Fisher; daughter, Coral (Steve) Hall of Norman, OK; and granddaughter, Lacy (Cristian) Garcia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Kay Fisher.
