A Celebration of Life Gathering for Jack Fortune, 79 of Pleasant Hill, will be Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Memorial contributions may be made to the AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport at 109 Guthrie Street, De Soto, Iowa 50069. Jackie Fortune was born July 14, 1937 to Claude and Mayme Fortune in Dallas, Iowa. Jack was born a twin. He always enjoyed having a twin sister, Carolyn. He attended country school near Dallas alongside his five siblings. Jack graduated from Melcher High School with the class of 1955. Jack was married to Colette Fee. To this union, four children were born: Mitchell, Michele, Jackie, and Jill. Jack made his living between farming, driving a truck for Bingley's, and working for Firestone. Jack worked for Firestone for thirty-three years and retired in 1994. After retirement, Jack worked security at Adventureland Amusement Park. On May 20, 1995, Jack was united in marriage to Mary Mealey The couple was blessed with twenty-one years of marriage. They enjoyed spending time with their family. Jack also enjoyed being outdoors, especially around his farm. He liked to camp, fish, and he loved the mountains in Colorado. Jack was a football fan and always rooted for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Bears. He was a collector of salt and pepper shakers, dishes, and various antiques. He loved Clint Eastwood movies and spending time with his dogs, Bowzer and Josie Wales. Above all else, Jack loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his wife, Mary. He will be greatly missed by so many. Jack passed away October 25, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Mary Fortune of Pleasant Hill; children: Mitchell (Mary) Fortune of Knoxville, Michele (Ivan) Ripperger of Melcher-Dallas, Jackie (Jerry) Lovell of Melcher-Dallas; Jill (Donald) Goforth of Ankeny; 13 grandchildren: Jackie Nelson, Allison, Matthew, Joseph, Jason, Corey, Joshua, Jacob, Jeremy, Jordan, Chad, Tessa, and Jessica; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 siblings: Jim Fortune, Carolyn Carroll, Joy Jackson. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and 2 siblings, Betty Jean Roberts and Jerry Fortune. Visitation
