Irma Schaefer, 84 of Lacona, passed away on January 18, 2016 at Circle of Life Hospice/Legacy Lodge in Chariton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. A rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altar & Rosary Society at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lacona or Legacy Lodge Hospice House in Chariton. Irma Hoch was born on December 18, 1931 to Norbert "Norb" and Josephine Hoch in Bauer, Iowa. She attended Bauer country school through the 8th grade. Later in life, Irma completed the work to receive her GED. On December 31, 1949, Irma was united in marriage to Ferman Schaefer in Bauer. To this union, three children were born: Norbert, Craig and Barb. Irma was a homemaker and a farm wife. She loved working on the farm; collecting eggs from her chickens and working in her garden. She had a beautiful flower garden and was especially fond of her roses. Irma enjoyed time spent in the kitchen cooking and baking. She also enjoyed crocheting, and playing cribbage. Irma was very active in both her church and the community. She was always willing to help out whenever she was needed. More than anything, Irma enjoyed time spent visiting with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by so many. Irma is survived by her children: Norbert (Sandy) Schaefer of Lacona, Craig Schaefer of Ft. Dodge, and Barb (Jack) Byers of Milo; 9 grandchildren: Amanda (Jeff) Morrison, Ashley (Jesse) Stewart, Zachary (Emily) Schaefer, Andrea (Bradley) Vandomelen, Tara (Don) Giannetti, Courtney (Ron) Jacobs, Garrett (Libby) Byers, Waylon (Diana) Byers, and Jacki Jo (Jared) Meyer; 20 great grandchildren; and siblings: Andy Hoch, Mary Dittmer, Ruth (Fred) Amos, Glen (Pat) Hoch, Denny (Lois) Hoch, Ron Hoch, and Ed (Linda) Hoch.
