Irene Ferguson

Irene Ferguson, 70, of Indianola passed away on July 8, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Indianola Christian Union Church. Irene was born on October 5, 1944 in Pigeon, Michigan. She was one of three children born to Donald and Viola (Stricker) Voelker. Irene graduated from Laker High School in Pigeon Michigan in 1962. Irene was married to Morris Ferguson on May 3, 1969. To this union two children were born: Wendy and Jill. The couple later divorced, but remained good friends. Irene loved to help and take care of others. She worked in group homes in the Des Moines area and was a foster care parent for adults who needed long term services and support. She was an encouraging person with a deep faith. In addition to helping others, Irene loved to work around the house. She liked home renovation and DIY projects. She was proud of the bbq pit that she built. Irene also loved to grow plants and nurture her garden. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Both her smile and her laugh were contagious. Irene will be dearly missed by her children: Wendy Hatcher of Indianola, Iowa, and Jill Grant (Ed) of Indianola, Iowa; stepchildren: Craig Ferguson (Julie) of Kendallville, Indiana, and Janet Ferguson of Conneaut, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; her father, Donald Voelker of Indianola, Iowa; her brothers, Dale Voelker of College Park, Maryland and Eldon Voelker (Peggy) of Pigeon Michigan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepson, Randy Ferguson; her mother, Viola Voelker; her husband, Morris Ferguson; and her niece Julia Voelker. Memorials may be given to the family in her name.
