Gary Dean Koons Sr.

Services for Gary Dean Koons Sr., 74, of Melcher-Dallas will be Friday, February 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dallas Christian Church in Melcher-Dallas. Interment will follow at the Swan Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas. Memorials may be made to the Melcher-Dallas Booster Club. Gary Dean Koons was born December 18, 1942 in Knoxville, Iowa to Harold and Pauline Harmer Koons. He grew up in the Milo area and graduated from Southeast Warren High School in 1961. After high school he worked for the Warren County Farm and then worked for Betts Cadillac as a mechanic for several years. He later went to work for Firestone. During the mid 1980's he took a break from Firestone and owned and operated Koons' Service and Gas Station. He then went back to Firestone and retired after a total of 30 years. Needless to say Gary loved the Chicago Cubs. After the Cubs won the World Series he said, " Alright, I can die now." That might seem a bit morbid but, Gary loved his Cubs. He also enjoyed the Hawkeyes, country music, antique tractors, and old westerns. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories and joke around. His greatest love was his family. He loved to attend all his children and grandchildren's events. Gary especially loved watching the kids play baseball and would drive his scooter to the games in good and bad weather. He was loved and will be missed by his entire family. Gary passed away at home on February 18th at the age of 74 years. He is survived by his children: Debbie (Jon) Meek, Dean (Jodi) Koons, Mike Owens, LaShana (John) Milburn, and Eric (Stephanie) Owens; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. Along with sisters: Mabel (Jim) Hardin and Patty (Skip) Walker; and nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
