Franklin Dwight Carruthers was born at home in Columbia on February 21, 1940 to Quentin and Theo (Whitlatch) Carruthers. He was the oldest of four children. Frank attended school in Columbia and began working at an early age. He worked with Phil Clark cutting wood, at the Ford garage in Knoxville and he farmed for 52 years. On July 30, 1960, at the age of 20, Frank married Sherry Lacey. Together they started a family and farmed. They had three children; Randy, Diane and Jerry. Frank enjoyed playing cards, watching NASCAR races, surfing Craigslist to find the newest tractor, toy tractor or coin to add to his growing collections, driving around the countryside checking fields and he especially enjoyed being ornery to nearly everyone in his path. Frank passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Westridge Nursing Home in Knoxville at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Gary and Larry Carruthers. Frank is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sherry; sister Margaret Carruthers of Knoxville; sons Randy and Jerry Carruthers of Columbia; daughter Diane Carruthers of Columbia; grandchildren: Tim (Kelli) Carruthers of Knoxville, Mike (Ashley) Carruthers of Des Moines, and Megan Carruthers (Paul Stanley) of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren: Mason, Parker, Wyatt and Hayden; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
