Evelyn Beebout passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 at Homestead Assisted Living in Knoxville. Services will be held Thursday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Columbia United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Columbia Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the Columbia United Methodist Church. For those wishing to do so, memorials may be given to the Columbia United Methodist Church, the Columbia Fire and Rescue, Every Step (Hospice of Central Iowa), or to a memorial selected by the family at a later date. Evelyn Lucille Shepard was born on April 5, 1924, at Chariton, Iowa, the first child of Ray Earnest and Gladys Irene Van Arsdale Shepard. She passed away on November 9, 2018, at Homestead Assisted Living, Knoxville, Iowa, at the age of 94. She attended Chariton Schools, Chariton Junior College, and Iowa State College. She worked as a secretary in the Iowa House of Representatives two sessions. On September 8, 1946, she married Kenneth T. Beebout at the Chariton Presbyterian Church. They had six children. She became a busy housewife caring for the family. She was an active member of the Columbia United Methodist Church serving as choir director for many years and organist for about forty years. She was active in United Methodist Women, locally, in district offices, and state committees. Especially important to her was mission education. Her sewing talents were used to make hundreds of school bags for school supplies in countries receiving mission support. Church members donated the school supplies. She was an active member of the Marion County Farm Bureau Women's Group, in which she served as chairman and on numerous committees. In April 1984, she was named an Iowa Merit Mother by the American Mothers, Inc. of Iowa. Preceding Evelyn in death were her husband, Kenneth; parents, Ray and Gladys Shepard; daughter, Nancy Phillips; son, Warren Beebout; son-in-law, Maurice Booth; granddaughter, Emily Beebout; and great grandson, Calvin Czech. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Mary Beebout of Newton, Iowa; son, Wayne (Joyce) Beebout of Grafton, Wisconsin; son, Charlie (Mary) Beebout of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Cheryl Booth of North Richland Hills, Texas; son-in-law, Bob Phillips, of Omaha, Nebraska; and daughter-in-law, Janice Beebout of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; with one more expected in two months, her sisters: Roberta Witt of Chariton, Iowa and Marilyn Greve of Boulder, Colorado; as well as many nieces and nephews.
