Estelene McCorkle

Services for Estelene McCorkle will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Columbia United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Columbia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Columbia United Methodist Church or to the Columbia Community Center / Fire Department. Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton handled the arrangements. Lois Estelene Davis was born November 23, 1935 to Kent and Lucille (Kelly) Davis at home near Columbia, Iowa. She was the second of four children born to the couple. Estelene attended school in Attica and worked at Robert's Store in Columbia. She graduated from Attica High School in 1953. After graduation, Estelene attended school in Iowa City to become a dental assistant and accepted a job working alongside Dr. Walton in Knoxville. Estelene was married to Bob McCorkle on the 10th of June in 1956 at the Columbia United Methodist Church. They made their home in Columbia and were blessed with three children: Maurine, Karen, and Kent. Bob and Estelene supported their family by farming and running the family business, McCorkle Hardware. Estelene kept up the bookkeeping while raising their children. Estelene was a very active member of the Columbia United Methodist Church. She was a member of the church choir for many years. Outside of work and church, Estelene enjoyed gardening, flowers, and canning. She loved to shop and was always very fashionable and neatly dressed. Estelene and Bob enjoyed going out for dinner with their friends. They also really enjoyed spending winters together in Texas. Above all else, Estelene enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Estelene passed away February 8, 2019 at the age of 83. She will be greatly missed by her children: Maurine McCorkle, Karen (Steve) Van Sant, and Kent (Malane) McCorkle; 7 grandchildren: Eric (Amber) Hall, Lisa (Mike) Willis, Alex (Rachelle) Hall, Matt Van Sant, Sarah Van Sant, Amy (Tom) Herwehe, and Alivia McCorkle; 8 great grandchildren: Chloe Hall, Garret Hall, Connor Willis, Camryn Willis, Olen Van Sant, Calvin Herwehe, Bentley Hall, Maggie Hall; and sister: Carolyn (Jerry) Witt; along with many relatives and friends. Estelene was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2014; parents, Kent and Lucille Davis; and brothers, Eugene and Wayne Davis. Cemetery Details Columbia Cemetery Columbia, IA
