Earl Brown Jr.

December 10, 1928 — February 19, 2016

A Memorial Service for Earl Brown Jr, 87, of Melcher-Dallas will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Truth Assembly of God Church in Chariton. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials are requested to the Truth Assembly of God Church. Earl Brown Jr. was born on December 10, 1928 to Earl Sr. and Opal Brown. Earl grew up in Missouri alongside his brother and sister. Earl was united in marriage to LaVonne "Bonnie" Morton on February 2, 1947. To this union, six children were born: Caroline, George "Pete", Robert "Charlie", Mary, Earl "Butch", and Linda. Earl's family was very important to him. Earl made a living as a farmer. He loved farming and the outdoors. Earl enjoyed mowing the yard, fishing with his grandchildren, camping, and gathering with loved ones around bonfires. In his later years, Earl loved to sit at the park and watch his great-grandchildren play. Earl never knew a stranger. He spent countless hours sitting outside his home under his favorite tree, waving and greeting anyone who passed by. He was always happy to have company, inviting friends and strangers alike into his home with a warm smile and the offer of a cold Pepsi. Earl attended the Truth Assembly of God Church in Chariton. He greatly enjoyed the potluck dinners and fellowship. When his health started to decline, Earl was thankful to have loved ones to care for him. His son-in-law, Darrell, made himself available during all hours. His granddaughter, Dorothy, and great-granddaughter, Sondra, also stepped in to make sure he was well-cared for. Earl's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton, Corydon Specialty Care, and Wayne County Health Center for their wonderful care of Earl and their kindness during his time with them. Earl passed away on February 19, 2016 at the age of 87. He will be greatly missed by many. He is survived by his children: Caroline Hogue (Bill), George 'Pete' Brown (Susan), Robert 'Charlie' Brown (Deanna), and Mary Collins (Greg); daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Ellis (Earl); son-in-law, Darrell Riggs; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald 'Wimp' Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVonne 'Bonnie' Brown; children, Earl 'Butch' Brown III and Linda Riggs; and sister, Edna Morris. Cemetery Details Chariton Cemetery HWY 14 and HWY 34
