Donald Wade Teater was born December 8, 1943, at the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California to Walter and Helen (Selby) Teater, joining his big brother, Warren. The family moved back to Corydon, Iowa when the boys were small.

Don attended Corydon Schools, graduating from Cambria Corydon High School in 1961. While in high school, he made his mark on the football field and as the chatter box catcher on the baseball team. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy to carry on the Navy tradition set by his grandfather, father, and brother. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of dedicated service. Don also worked at ConAgra in Covington, Tennessee, where they made candy.

Don met the love of his love, Lola Selby, and the two were married on April 4, 2004, at the Coal Ridge Church in Pella. Together, they worked and played at the RV Park at Lake Red Rock. They enjoyed traveling and wintering in Arizona for three years. He absolutely loved her and her entire family. Being a grandpa and great grandpa brought him much happiness. He also loved having his dog, Figaro, by his side.

In 2012, Don was saved, asking the Lord for forgiveness. He was baptized at the Corydon Bible Church on January 27, 2013.

Having spent 20 years in the Navy, Don was a strong man. However, he did have a clumsy side to him. One time, he even broke his toe putting on his underwear. Lola asked him why he didn’t just stop putting them on the minute his toe got stuck.
Don needed extensive training on using the remote control for the T.V., while living with Joe and Shanda It would only take a few clicks and it would need to be reprogrammed. This soon became a running joke for the family.

Don enjoyed golfing and putting around on his golf cart. He loved to take the grandkids for rides to see the elk, go uptown for ice cream or just putting around the yard. He loved cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, going to little league games, swim meets, band concerts and football games.

Lola’s family loved talking Don into doing things he didn’t really want to do. They even got him to ride the Galleon and other rollercoasters, as well as trying zip lining at church camp. Don was always a good sport and loved to make Lola laugh.

Don will be dearly missed by his sister, Nancy Teater Niday and Larry of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Karen Jones Teater of Fresno, California; daughter, Teresa Teater Hanks of Covington, Tennessee; grandchildren: Meghan, D.J., Nathan, and Sydney; step children: Trish Garrison, Brian (Bonnie) Selby, Shanda (Joe) Ring, and Kara Armell; step grandchildren: Kasey, Ethan (Kiley), Cheyenne (Noah), Nathan, Taylor (Clint), Tanner (Shelby), Skyler (Ryan), Nicholas (Kenedy), Noah, and Makenna; step great grandchildren: Liam, Emma, Will, Wyatt, Karver, and Korbyn; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lola Selby Teater; parents, Walter and Helen Teater; infant sister, Anita Faye; brother, Richard Warren; and son, Kelvin Teater.
