Donald "Dean" Simmons Jr.

Donald ‘Dean' Simmons Jr, 66, passed away on March 14th, 2020, at his home. Funeral services will be at the Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, Iowa with burial at the Palestine Cemetery immediately following at a later date. Dean was born February 28th, 1954 to Donald & Pearl Simmons of Des Moines, Iowa. On September 4th, 1976 he was united in marriage to Marla Brendeland. Dean & Marla had one daughter, Megan. After Marla's passing, Dean married April Henson on September 3rd, 2009. Together they adopted Kendra. Dean worked on cars most of his life, either at the body shop or in the insurance business. He enjoyed being with his family, watching racing and fixing things. Survivors include his wife, April; children: Megan (Joe) Russell of Bondurant, Kendra Simmons of Chariton, Tricia (Erick) Cobb of Chariton, Shaun (Bonnie) Henson of Lawson, Missouri, & David (Shannon) Henson of Wathena, Kansas; grandchildren: Reece, Riley, Regan, Chase, Brandt, Daneelynn, Justice, Raven, Selena, Gabe, Landon & Mason; four great grandchildren; his dad, Don Simmons; sisters, Pam (Scott) Carpenter of Des Moines, Iowa & Paula Harris of California. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marla; mom, Pearl; and infant brother, Randy. Memorial money may be directed to the family for the education of Kendra, Dean and April's 13-year-old daughter.
