Graveside services for Delbert Heckman, age 90, of Lacona will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Virginia Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to attend. For those desiring, the service may be viewed online at . In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Lacona Fire Department. Per Iowa corona virus guidelines, facemasks are required. Delbert Charles Heckman was born October 19, 1930 in Adair County to William and Ruby (Petersen) Heckman. He was one of five children. When he was seven, his family moved to the Medora area where he attended a country school. He graduated from New Virginia in 1948. Delbert served as a Marine during the Korean conflict from November 1951 to November 1953. After returning from the service, he married Joyce Elaine Peters on May 28, 1954. They were blessed with two children: Jerry and Jolene. Delbert farmed and carpentered. He was very active with the St. Mary's Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and hunting. His love for hunting consisted of coon hunting and bow hunting for deer, squirrel and rabbit. The family had a lot of very memorable vacations, consisting of camping and boating. He was usually boating every Sunday he could, where he taught many kids how to waterski. Delbert will be missed by his wife, Joyce; children: Jerry (Gerry) Heckman and Jolene Dittmer; his grandchildren: Lynne (Carlos) Vaz, Michelle (Mike) Fuller, Brian Dittmer, Leland Heckman, Matthew (Chelsey) Heckman, and Cody Heckman; 11 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Shirley Crawford, Norma Eberly, Melvin Heckman, and Ramona Reed. Graveside Service
