Delbert H. Ripperger was born on March 30, 1936 in Lacona, Iowa to Thomas and Clara Ripperger. He graduated from Lacona High School in 1954. After high school, Delbert enlisted in the United States Army. Delbert married Phyllis Miller on January 13, 1962. To this union, three children were born: Cindy, Curt and Joseph. Delbert spent his working career as a sheet metal worker or "tin bender". He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially in Alaska and Canada. He was the "jack of all trades" and could fix anything with a little duct tape and some rubber bands. He was a baseball fan, always rooting for the Yankees. Delbert enjoyed gardening, going to the boat, and spending time with good friends at O'Neal's. He loved his Old Milwaukee and wondered, " How do they make it so good and sell it so cheap?" More than anything, Delbert enjoyed time spent with his family. He was a grandfather to seven and a great grandfather to eight. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; children: Cindy (Dan) Hart, Curt (Renee) Ripperger, and Joseph (Kim) Ripperger; 7 grandchildren: Kasey (fiancé, Tiffany) Ripperger, John Hart, Katie (Trevor) Swanson, Karie Hart, Kaylene Ripperger, Kara Bernal, and Wendy Cannon; 8 great grandchildren: Adianna, Amarisah, Ashton, Tenton, Ryder, Autumn, Tegan, and Hunter; and sisters: Louise (Chauncey) Stanley and Pat (Glen) Hoch. Preceding Delbert in death were his parents: Thomas and Clara; and siblings: Virgil, Kenneth, Russell, Lester, Charles, Loren, Mildred Runyan, and Geraldine Bownes.
