Deb Morrison

August 23, 1950 — July 8, 2011

Deb Morrison ended her battle with cancer on Friday, July 8, 2011 surrounded by family and friends at the age of 60 years. She was deeply loved and will be missed by her children: Susie (Milton) Thurmond of Iowa City and Steve (Kari) Stratemeyer of Des Moines; mother, Corinne Robertson of Columbia, MO; special friend and companion, Jim Nation of Derby; and siblings: Cheryl Robertson, Danny Robertson, and Bill Robertson; along with many other relatives and close friends. Preceding her in death are her father, William Robertson; husband, Jim Morrison; and brother, Lonnie Robertson. Deb was born in Marshalltown on August 23, 1950 to William and Corinne Robertson. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School in 1968 and then attended the University of Iowa. She lived in Hubbard, IA for many years where she raised her children and enjoyed playing bridge with all her friends. Deb moved to Des Moines worked as an accountant for several hotels including the Hotel Fort Des Moines and the West Des Moines Holiday Inn for many years. She proudly served on the Family Planning Council in Des Moines and was the head of the Iowa Genealogical Society for a number of years during the 1980's and remained very active in searching out her own, as well as others, family history. Deb enjoyed her retirement on a secluded acreage near Derby. She loved the peacefulness of the country and being able to spend time with her dog, Buddy, the flowers and gardening. She also loved to travel, seeing a lot of the country camping and she especially enjoyed going on cruises. A memorial service will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at her home.
