Dean A. Krutsinger

August 30, 1944 — August 11, 2015

Dean Krutsinger, 70, of Chariton passed away on August 11, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 14, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Chariton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Dean Arlan Krutsinger was born on August 30, 1944 to Dean and Frances Krutsinger on their family farm in "Sweet Hollow" near Chariton, Iowa. When he was first born his mother rocked him, singing nursery rhymes to her baby, Dean. Those who overheard her thought she was singing Bobby Dean. The nickname stuck and growing up he was known by many as Bobby or Bob. Dean was one of seven children born to the couple. He graduated from Chariton High School in 1963. After graduating, Dean worked for Wright's Tree Service for a year before moving to Des Moines. There he took a full time job with Ford Implement in Des Moines where he worked for several years. During the same time, he worked part time fixing bikes at Kyle's Bike Shop. Eventually Dean came to miss his hometown of Chariton. He returned and took up farming. He loved to farm; bailing hay, driving his dump truck down gravel roads, and just spending time on his land. Dean was blessed to meet Elizabeth "Liz" Roush, his lifelong companion of 32 years. He always introduced her to others as his "boss". Together they raised their children: Gerald "Kipper", Bobby Dean, Jeri Danielle, Jacklyn Jean, Dixie Lea, Sam, Joe, and Buddy. He was a compassionate father and loved spending time with his kids. Dean was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His grandkids were his world. He was happy just to sit and watch them play for hours. Dean took them for countless rides on his John Deere tractor and loved having all of the kids visit the farm for family bonfires. His grandkids will always remember how their grandpa Dean would talk to them in his "Indian voice". Dean was a character with a big personality. He made friends everywhere he went. He also had a sense of humor that was contagious. He liked to invite himself over to dinner and was known to help himself to other people's food, or as he called it, O.P. food. Dean loved spending time at R&R Repair in Chariton. He was the self-proclaimed "supervisor" at R&R until his retirement two weeks ago. He was never without his coffee cup, and if left it behind, he would always go back for it. He was a big Nascar fan and watched every weekend, never missing a race. 4 Point Pitch was his favorite game. His kids remember playing game after game with him. They also remember his "surprise" visits. He rarely called ahead, insisting that he see his children "how they really lived". He was a hard worker and instilled the importance of hard work in his children, telling them, "Work hard while you're young, because you won't be able to work when you're older." Nothing was ever broken in Dean's eyes. He had the mentality that anything could be fixed. He also loved to help others. He had a huge heart and would do whatever he could for just about anybody when they were in need. Dean will be dearly missed by his lifelong companion of 32 years, Elizabeth Roush of Chariton; children: Gerald "Kipper" Krutsinger of Chariton, Bobby Dean Krutsinger (Donna) of Liberty, MO, Jeri Danielle Vestal (Brian) of Pleasantville, Jacklyn Jean McCormick (Jamie) of Knoxville, Dixie Lea Roush-McCarty (Ron) of Lacona, Sam Roush of Lacona, Joe Roush (Marcia) of Lacona, and Buddy Johnson (Kim) of Paradise Valley, AZ; 13 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and siblings: George Krutsinger (Joyce) of Unionville, MO, Tony Krutsinger of Chariton, Linda Krutsinger of Iowa City, and Carolyn Montgomery (Larry) of Unionville, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Frances Krutsinger, and brothers, David Krutsinger and Jerry Krutsinger. Cemetery Details Mt. Zion Cemetery Lacona, IA
