Daniel "Dee" Mason

Daniel Dee Mason was born March 18, 1957 in Des Moines, Iowa to Daniel and Betty (Atherton) Mason. He was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1975 and attended Iowa State University for three years. He enjoyed going to the Knoxville Sprint Car Races and collecting Hot Wheels. He loved the outdoors and working in his gardens. He had many types of flowers and especially enjoyed the Irises. He also enjoyed watching his many Hummingbirds. He was a member of the National Home Gardening Club. He was very generous and loved to help people and animals. He was definitely an animal lover and had several cats and dogs that he had rescued. Dee was a hard worker delivering papers and working Saturday evenings in addition to his regular job. He worked in Denver, Colorado for years at his aunt and uncles landscaping business, then moved back to Iowa and worked at the Print Shop at Pella Corp. He then moved to the factory where he was currently employed. Although he had no children of his own he enjoyed children and was close to his stepdaughter, Mary (Matt) Dillon. Dee served has a Boy Scout Leader in Pleasantville and always-enjoyed working with people. Dee passed away November 1, 2013 at his home in Pleasantville at the age of 56 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Mason; and by both sets of grandparents. Surviving are his father, Daniel Mason of Mountain View, AR; his siblings: Lori (Jay Welsh) Mason of Ottumwa, David (Lana) Mason of Oskaloosa, Julie (Eric) Weidner of Pleasantville, and Anthony Mason of Marshalltown; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas.
