Connie Spiker

March 13, 1935 — February 6, 2012

Connie was born March 13, 1935 to Harley and Maysel (Roberts) Gartin. She was the middle child and was raised in rural Lucas County with her sisters, Shirley and Eloise. Connie attended Chariton Schools and graduated from Chariton High School in 1953. Connie worked for many years at the Country Chef with her sisters. Connie was very close to her sisters and loved being one of the 'Gartin Girls'. Connie also worked at the telephone company for a number of years retiring from there in 1990. She then began working for Hy-Vee in order processing. She loved to work and loved to be with her extended family at Hy-Vee. Connie enjoyed raising her family. She was blessed with four children: Pam, Craig, Kelli, and Tony. As all their families grew, she loved to be with her grandchildren. Connie especially loved to attend the baseball and basketball games of her grandchildren. They will remember her love, support, and sugar cookies. Connie had a love for people and enjoyed volunteering, helping in any way she could and always thought of everyone else first. She belonged to the Yickety-Yak Club, a group of close friends that had been getting together for 55 years. A luncheon will be from 11:30 until 12:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Chariton. She will be missed by her sisters: Shirley (Tom) Swanson and Eloise Harvey of Chariton; children: Pam Burlin of Chariton, Craig (Shari) Spiker of Chariton, Kelli (Doug) Kline of Oskaloosa, and Tony (Gretchen) Spiker of Pella; grandchildren: Tyler, Austin, Michael (Maleah), Brett, Andrew, Anthony, Chris, Jason, Douglas, Casie (Maury), Cory, Austin, Sarah, Jacey, Hannah, Zandra, and Norma; and 8 great grandchildren.
