Charles Myron Rosa was born on June 8, 1927, to Fred and Edna (Bell) Rosa on the family farm. He grew up attending country schools, later graduating from Chariton High School in 1944. After graduation, he worked awhile before enlisting in the Navy. After the war, he returned home and did some construction work in northern Iowa, helping build a bridge near Stratford.
Charles made his way back to help his father and uncle on the farm. It was then that he was attending church with his family and met the love of his life, Avis Hutchings. The two were married February 8, 1953. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Paul, Mark, and David.
Charles and Avis stayed in the Chariton area, continuing to farm and raise their family. He enjoyed and excelled at raising livestock, mainly cattle and hogs. He later took great pride in raising show pigs for his kids and grandkids, which they have fond memories of. Charles was a loving man who had a wonderful relationship with his wife. He could be stern, but always in a loving way.
Charles was a devout Christian with a deep faith. He had a wonderful sense of humor, often joking around with his family and friends. He loved to work, never really retiring. He just kind of began giving up one thing at a time. When he finally had to give up farming, he did take up gardening, and that hobby kept him busy.
Charles was also a volunteer. He was on several committees including being the Trustee at his church, the ASCS Committee, the Extension Council, as well as a 4-H Leader. He enjoyed giving his time to others.
Those left to cherish Charles’ memory are his children: Paul (Ruth) Rosa, Dave (Jean) Rosa, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Rosa; grandchildren: Andrea (Brad) Hanse, Daniel (Beth) Rosa, Jason (Craig) Rosa, Jana (Jim) Daisy, Adam Rosa, and Amanda (Matthew) Peterson; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Akins; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife Avis and his son, Mark.
