He attended grade school in Lucas, then attended junior high school and high school in Chariton graduating in 1972. He met Marsha Kinser in high school and they went on their first date on Bruce's 16th Birthday. They were married on March 16, 1973 and were blessed with two sons: Cale and Jared. Bruce started helping his Grandpa Pappy on the farm as soon as he was big enough to reach the pedals on the tractor. He enjoyed living over the hill from his grandparents as he could always check to see which house was having the best meals. As a boy he liked to go hunting with his dog Patches. Summers during high school he would help put up hay to make some spending money. He also worked part time for the Forestry Department. After high school he worked for a gas station for a few months before working for the Humeston Sale Barn. He started at Hy-Vee in October of 1973. He originally picked orders and loaded trucks before landing his dream job of driving a semi for Hy-Vee. He really enjoyed driving and the opportunity it gave him to talk (on the CB) while working and to meet new people. He would come home telling life stories about someone only for us to find out he had only just met them that day. When Cale and Jared were old enough to get a vehicle, he took them individually on a road trip to Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee looking for a pickup. He also enjoyed taking them hunting and fishing. Surviving Bruce is his wife, Marsha; sons: Cale Patterson and Jared (Julie) Patterson; sister: Becky (Dan) Allen; in-laws: Janet and Ed Palmer, Joyce and Jim Sederburg, Mike and Lorrie Kinser, David Kinser, and Kirk Alston. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents: Junior and Theresa, and grandparents: Russell and Sadie Patterson and Harry and Rebecca Duree. Cemetery Details Chariton Cemetery HWY 14 and HWY 34
