Billy Raney, 49, of Chariton passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Bright Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines. Billy was born on February 1, 1965 in Iowa City to Bobby and Joan (Cruise) Raney. He married Sandra Beal on January 6, 1987 in Oskaloosa. Billy was a welder for the majority of his career working at Vermeer Corp. in Pella, Raceway Tire & Exhaust in Knoxville and also at Johnson Machine Works in Chariton. He was a very loving, thoughtful and caring person who would go out of his way to help others. Billy loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and tinkering on any type of mechanical motor. He especially enjoyed working on cars. Billy felt an accomplishment when he was able to tear down a motor and return it back to its original form. He treasured the day he was able to skydive with his co-workers at Johnson Machine Works. Billy Raney will be missed by many family and friends. Survivors include his wife Sandy Raney of Chariton, three children: Josh Raney of Chariton, Jody Raney of Chariton, Ashley Raney of Des Moines, three grandchildren: Collin Ware, Aaliyah and Keegan Kucera, four siblings: John Raney (Bev) of Rose Hill, Iowa, Tim Raney (Rita) of Knoxville, Laurie Fanning (Darrell) of Kellogg, Iowa, Patty Foster (Tim) of Pella. He was preceded in death by his parents: Bobby & Joan Raney, grandparents and brother Michael Raney Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton with Pastor Kevin Gleasner officiating. Interment will be in Haines Cemetery near Centerville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton.
