Betty J. (Spaur) Graham was born on September 4, 1927, in Knoxville, Iowa, to Tom and Theo (Applegate) Spaur. She was raised in Liberty Center, graduating from the Liberty Center High School with the class of 1944. After high school, she moved to Des Moines where she worked in banking.

Betty married Bill Graham on July 29, 1947, at the Methodist Church in Milo. They were blessed with three children: one son, Brad, and two daughters, Sandi and Teri. She was able to be home with the children when they were young.

After the kids were older, Betty went back to work in Des Moines. She worked at various places: Look Magazine, Meredith Publishing, and Farm Bureau. Later she worked for the downtown Des Moines Post Office and then worked various part time jobs until she was almost 80 years old.

Betty loved to stay busy, even if it was just going for a drive around town to be out and about. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s sporting events. She was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan. She never missed a Hawkeye game on TV. She was so excited to celebrate her 90th birthday by watching her first game in-person at Kinnick Stadium. Betty also looked forward to hosting the 4th of July picnic in her yard with family and friends and going to the county and state fairs.

Betty passed away June 14, 2022, at The Village in Indianola. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Sandi Hunerdosse and Teri (Jeff) McDonald; 9 grandchildren: Travis (Kenneth Des Jardins) Hunerdosse, Aaron (Kara) Hunerdosse, Danielle (Ryan) Bauer, Wade Crow, Andrew McDonald, Heather Graham, Brandon Graham, Sean Graham, and Brandi Detrick; 11 great grandchildren: Alec, Mason, Jayden, Blake, Kaleb (Tori), Kaylee, Candice, Austin, Colin, Jackson, and Sophia; sister-in-law, Martha Graham; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Theo Spaur; husband, Bill Graham; son, Brad Graham; son-in-law, Donnie Hunerdosse; and siblings, Jean Lavia and Bob Spaur.
