Beatrice "Bea" Gillaspy

Services for Beatrice 'Bea' Gillaspy, 97, of Chariton will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Chariton. Memorials are requested to the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Beatrice Juanita Gillaspy was born on December 12, 1917 in Woodburn, Iowa to James and Elsie (Smith) Wilkins. She was one of twelve children born to the couple. Bea was married to Frank Gillaspy on September 11, 1937 in Lucas County. To this union, three children were born: Albert Joe, Louise and Larry. Bea, a very social person never met a stranger. She loved music and enjoyed being a part of the Humeston Pickers. She liked to play marbles and cribbage with family and friends. Bea was very talented in the kitchen and was known for her pies, her jelly and her homemade chicken and noodles. Other passions included berry picking, mushroom hunting, fishing and family functions. For years, Bea lived in Oakley. She coordinated the ordering of flowers when people passed away within the community and organized many lunches after funeral services. She could often be seen riding around Oakley on her golf cart with her beloved dog, Mister, by her side. Bea passed away on July 31, 2015 at the age of 97. She is survived by her children: Albert Joe Gillaspy of Chariton, Louise (Richard) Krutsinger of Melcher-Dallas, and Larry (Linda) Gillaspy of Chariton; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 19 great great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Dwight (Marcille) Wilkins of Murray. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elsie Wilkins; husband, Frank Gillaspy; brothers: Chet, Art, Raymond, Vernard, and Clarence; sisters: Edna, Edith, Bernice, Dortha, and Vera; grandchildren, Rhonda Kay Krutsinger and William Frank Gillaspy; great-grandchild, Jeffery Chambers; and great-great-grandchild, Mellannie Bishop.
