Marion Thomasson, 78, of Chariton passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Services for Marion will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Chariton. Family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church in Chariton. Kenneth Marion Thomasson was born on October 29, 1936 to Kenneth and Fern (Minks) Thomasson at their home in Numa, Iowa. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the age of eight. Around the same time, Marion met his future wife, June, at the parsonage of the Chariton United Brethren Church during a revival. He graduated from Sewal High School in 1954. He then went on to work at John Morrell in Ottumwa. Marion was married to Naomi June Leonard on May 14, 1955 in Centerville, Iowa. Marion and June were blessed with three daughters: Rebecca Jean, Debra June, and Connie Lynn. The family moved to Cambria where Marion worked as a farm hand. They later moved to Chariton where he worked for a time at Johnson Machine Works. Marion took a job with the Woodcock Oil Company at the Conoco Station as the manager, later becoming their bulk truck driver. He worked for Bob for over forty years. His faith was very important to him. He enjoyed gospel singing and faithfully attended the Grace Baptist Church in Chariton. Marion had great integrity. His family will tell you that his handshake was his word, it was true. To him a promise was a promise. Marion's family was very important to him. He enjoyed time spent with his daughters and their families. He was a proud grandfather to eight and great-grandfather to twenty-one with twin grandsons on the way. He always enjoyed a home cooked meal, topped off with a good cup of coffee and a piece of pie. Marion will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 60 years, June Thomasson, of Chariton; daughters: Rebecca Jean (Merlin) Pierschbacher of Chariton, Debra June (Herb) Hoover of Indianola, and Connie Lynn (Jim) McDonald of Creston; 8 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and twin boys on the way; sister, Marilyn (Karl) Palmer of Corydon; and brother, Dennis (Esther) Thomasson of Kansas, Oklahoma.
