Naomi June Leonard was born on January 13, 1938 to Oscar and Edna (Helmick) Leonard at their home in Drakesville, Iowa. June grew up in the Drakesville area and attended country school. At a very young age, June met her future husband, Marion, at the parsonage of the Chariton United Brethren Church during a revival. At a young age she accepted Christ and lived faithfully for Him. June was united in marriage to Kenneth Marion Thomasson on May 14, 1955 in Centerville, Iowa. They were blessed with three daughters: Rebecca Jean, Debra June, and Connie Lynn. The family lived for a time in Cambria before moving to Chariton, which became their permanent home. June was raised to be a hard worker and she remained a hard worker throughout her life. She loved to cook, making impressive meals from scratch. June also enjoyed a well kept home ready to welcome family and friends anytime . For years, June worked at Piper's Grocery and Homemade Candies. She helped to make their famous Easter eggs every spring. In addition to making candy, June dedicated much of her life to helping others. She found it rewarding to support her family and friends, whether it was with a home cooked meal or devoting her time to care for others in anyway she could. June and Marion faithfully attended the Grace Baptist Church in Chariton for years. Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed time spent with her daughters and their families. She was a very proud grandma to eight and great-grandma to twenty-four. June will be deeply missed by her daughters: Rebecca Jean (Merlin) Pierschbacher of Chariton, Debra June (Herb) Hoover of Indianola, and Connie Lynn (Jim) McDonald of Creston; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, DeWayne (Shirley) Leonard; and sister, Pauline Couchman.
