Darrell Riggs

May 1, 1951 — March 25, 2018

Darrell Riggs was born May 1, 1951 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clyde and Irma Medearis Riggs. The family moved to Chariton in the summer of 1960 and that fall Darrell attended Garfield elementary 4th grade. He was a member of the class of 1969. Darrell married the love of his life, Linda Brown, on April 10, 1971. They spent 43 years together before her passing in 2014. Darrell worked with his father in the plumbing, HVAC, and electrical contracting business, until taking over The Office Tap in 1985. He enjoyed owning the bar and his customers became his second family. Darrell loved to see his friends, socialize, and cheer for the Hawkeyes and the Cardinals. Everyone will miss his kindness, generosity, willingness to help others, and his desire to make life better for everyone he knew. Darrell liked fishing, camping, and mushroom hunting when his children were young. As he grew older Darrell and Linda enjoyed golfing and Hawkeye tailgating with their friends. They camped at the Iowa State Fair for many years with a group of Chariton friends on what was called Old Mill Hill. He also loved to camp at Humeston with his family where he and Linda enjoyed golfing. One of Darrell's most precious activities was spoiling his grandchildren (especially on the holidays). He loved his granddaughters and great grandson and attended everything that they were involved in. Darrell passed away March 25, 2018 at the age of 66 years. Preceding him in death was his wife, Linda; parents: Clyde and Irma Riggs; and brothers: Ed Riggs and Donald Riggs. Surviving are his children: Dorothy (Danny) Wilcox, Roger Punteney, and Darrell Riggs Jr.; grandchildren: Sondra and Kendra; and great grandson, Jameson. Along with siblings: David Riggs, Dan Riggs, and Karen Randall. A Celebration of Life for Darrell will be held on his birthday, May 1, 2018 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at The Office. This will be a time for remembering and celebrating together our friendship with Darrell. Memorials in Darrell's name may be made to Adoptable Paws in Chariton. Pierschbacher Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
